Must read! Ms. Marvel’s Zenobia Shroff Offended By International Publications For This Reason

Mumbai: Ms. Marvel is an American television miniseries created by Bisha K. Ali for the Disney+ streaming service. It is based on the Marvel comics featuring the character Kamala Khan/Ms. Wonder. It is the seventh television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise.

The story of Marvel’s first dark-haired superhero is acclaimed, as are its actors, including Indian actor Zenobia Shroff, who plays the titular character’s mother. However, the actress was upset when two major international publications misnamed her in their articles. Zenobia says it shows “laziness” on their part.

Ms. Marvel centers on Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani) and her struggle to gain superpowers. Zenobia plays her mother Muneeba in the series, along with fellow Indian actors Mohan Kapur and Sagar Shaikh. Last week, a New York Times article about the show included a photo of the Khan family, in which the caption identified Zenobia as fellow Indian actor Nimra Bucha. Another Indie Wire article on Ms. Marvel misspelled Zenobia’s name.

The actor took to his social media, sharing a screenshot of the NY Times article, saying “I don’t appreciate you not doing your research.” Her caption read, “I am not Nimra Bucha whom I adore, but we are two different people.”

Zenobia says so far there has been no response from either publication.

When asked if the Western press often gets her name wrong, Zenobia replies: “Answering is like asking if the sky is blue! I have been misidentified and misrepresented so many times in my career in the past.

Zenobia is a film and stage veteran having worked as an actor for over thirty years in India and the West.

Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Avengers fangirl who struggles to fit in until she gains powers of her own. Ali is head writer with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah leading the directing team.
