Dorna starts working for the future MotoGP™ Grand Prix in India

Dorna Sports is delighted to announce that work has begun on a possible future Indian Grand Prix, with the aim of bringing the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship to the Indian subcontinent in the near future.
Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta recently traveled to India to meet with authorities and the potential promoter of the Fairstreet Sports event. The tour began at the spectacular Buddh International Circuit, just outside New Delhi, which would be the target location to host the eventual MotoGP™ event.
Subsequently, the delegation also traveled to Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the region in which the circuit is located, to meet the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yogi Adityanath and the Minister of Industrial Development, Mr. Nand Gopal “Nandi”.
Finally, the visit ended with a presentation in New Delhi to local media and motorcycling industry representatives, which highlighted the country’s high expectations of MotoGP™.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna: “India is a huge country and market, and particularly important for the two-wheeler industry and MotoGP as a sport. The championship has a huge fan base there and being able to hold a MotoGP event in India would both be an incredible spectacle for our fans whilst allowing us to continue to grow the sport in the region, which is hugely important to our all of our partners and manufacturers in particular given the hundreds of millions of two wheeled vehicles on its roads. We would love to be able to complete this project and race these amazing MotoGP bikes in front of Indian fans.

Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur during the meeting with the Fairstreet Sports team added: “This is a historic day for the sports and automotive industry and a fitting tribute to the Azadai Ka Amrit Maha Utsav celebrations, marking India’s dignified arrival on the global sports platform. India could potentially be one of MotoGP’s biggest markets in terms of viewership and revenue.
“MotoGP is a vital asset thanks to the viewership loyalty the sport enjoys and the competitive nature it embodies, already reaching nearly half a billion homes worldwide. Dorna Sports, the sole rights holder commercial and television, produces worldwide television coverage of each Grand Prix throughout the season, from acquisition to distribution, as part of a 360-degree event management philosophy.
