Golf Inc. Announces Renovation of the Year Winners

Each year, Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year competition seeks to identify the best private and public renovated golf venues in the world. This year, the competition rewards two winners of public lessons and five winners of private lessons.

Greg Norman’s The Norman Signature course at Vidanta Nuevo in Nayarit, Mexico won first place for the public course renovation. The restoration of the 27-hole course, which adjoins a river, has also helped prevent flooding in the area. It was completed in February.

“These floods have frequently caused significant damage to people in the area,” Norman said. “Since our restoration, these floods have been averted and communities have been positively impacted.”

Second place went to The Preserve at Eisenhower in Crownsville, Md.

In the private lesson category, judges selected BraeBurn Country Club in Houston, Texas as the top winner. Architect Tripp Davis’ redesign was completed in December 2021, bringing new diversity to the way the holes are played.

Other winners in the private club category were Guadalajara Country Club AC in Guadalajara, Mexico, second place; and San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif., third place. Honorable mentions went to the Magnolia Golf Course at the Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia, and the Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Judging was based on how well the project achieved the development team’s vision, as well as course aesthetics, environmental and economic sustainability, course layout, land use and improvement of playability. The winners were chosen by blind judging.

The judges were Jason Sloan, director/project manager for Frontier Golf and member of the board of directors of the Golf Course Builders Association of America; and Ron Cutlip of Cutlip Golf Design, which focuses on course design, construction and development.
