Culpeper Times Wins Publishing and Publicity Awards | InsideNoVa Culpeper – Culpeper Times


Culpeper Times won multiple awards from the Virginia Press Association for editorial and publicity work completed in 2021.

Prizes were announced online this week, with the first prizes announced on Thursday.

The Times Advertising Service ranked first for Slick Publications (standalone section with a slick cover) for Culpeper Chamber Magazine and Special sections (stand-alone non-smooth cover section) for Soap box derby.

The department also won second place in Slick Publications (standalone section with slick cover) for FACES of Culpeper.

Among the editorials, Maria Basileo, editor of the Culpeper Times, received second place for her new writing portfolio, primarily for her coverage of the Culpeper Police Department co-respondent program.

Freelance photographer Tim Hickling also won third place in General News Photo for a photo of former councilman Jon Russell on election night.

Culpeper Times parent company InsideNova received 31 total awards in the annual VPA competition, including 11 first prizes.

One of InsideNoVa’s sister publications, the Rappahannock News, won the news competition prize among the second-smallest group of non-daily newspapers in the state.

It also won Best in Show awards for graphics and illustrations and for online photography among non-daily newspapers.
